the fear of attending college

Posted: August 12, 2010 in Uncategorized

This being my first time back in college after a few years of denial, I realize that the decision to go to college is a big  one. The cost related to attending trade school, universities, online outlets can be very expensive. In the past i went to schools like tesst college , itt tech, community colleges on the east coast and seemed to get nothing but years of student loan dept, and jobs that were mediocre at best and a pay scale that hovered around the 40,000 range.

Students should never consider getting student loans from high interest rate vendors like SALLIE MAE , because you are entering a dept for life, unless you get a job making enough money to pay it back. Sallie mae will hunt you down until your dead for their money, they don’t care whether you have kids or homeless . The ways of achieving an education has to change. There  should be more programs that support the arts, dancing, singing, music production. It seems that the arts have no funding  from federal agencies or grants. Your best  of getting involved in those programs are fully dependent on you.

Community college is a great way to figure out what you want to do without spending a huge amount of money on education. I think schools like Santa Monica gives students  a valid opportunity to  achieve your goals while  experiencing different fields of study and possible getting a degree or transferring to a university. My outlook on attending school has changed over the years, I realize that it’s who you know in this world and not what schools you attending or degrees that you have. Today many successful entrepeneurs have not gone to college, so this creates a workforce that  are where there are because of experience or because someone recommended them. Experience comes from living your life and doing as many different things as possible to bring to the table when you are in a new position. I sure do hope that i find a career in the near future that i will spend the rest of my life doing. I want to wake up thinking that I have  a  creative career oriented  position to go to, not a job that tears away from my soul , and just gives me a below  average pay check.

flight attendent loses his cool

Posted: August 12, 2010 in Uncategorized

A few days ago a flight attendant for jet blue airlines seemed to lose it ,  a passenger was getting his bag from the overhead compartment and it fell on the flight attendant,s head . The passenger was not apologetic and called the flight attendant a mother bleep bleep.  This was totally uncalled for, me being from the airline industry having worked for delta airlines and us air as a customer service agent . I  understand the frustration that the flight attendant must have felt, he had been an employee for 28 yrs and probably lost it after that  interaction with a very rude customer.

I remember having to deal with multiple situations where customers were rude, called me names, displayed such unacceptable conduct in the airport to where we have to call the cops to take them away from the ticket counter. I don’t think people realize that when you’re in the airport or on the tarmac that it  is federal government realm. You could  go to prison for having drugs or causing any type of disruption in the airport.  As customer service agents why do we have to go thru such abuse, its such a blatant disrespect for the common working man. After years of dealing with whining, spoiled , unappreciative customers , your bound to lose it.

The flight attendant pulling the emergency shoot and taking a beer on the way out, was a great way to let the people all around the world know, that   we are tired of the bullshit on  the aircraft. Flight attendants can  have attitudes at times and be unhelpful,  but i think they  develop that attitude over time  after doing the job for years. I don,t think he should do jail time for this action, but that goes back to being on federal government grounds, if you  mess  with FAA regulations, that’s jail time no matter who you are. Hopefully in the future he  will get hired at another airline, it seems he was a pleasant individual.

Recently as stated in the press michael jackson.s  the house in which he passed away is put up for sale for just a little bit of cash.  If you’re not scarred of ghost you might want to consider purchasing the house, in a way his ghost might be more on the positive side because of his good nature while  he was alive.  The story of his passing away is still a bit creepy for me , i think he was dead for a while before the paramedic showed up and tried to revive him and rush him off to ucla medical center.

His soul pretty much left his body while in that house , and traveled to wherever he seemed to be fit. The house is definitely big enough for a few ghost to live there not just michael,s . The sale of the property ,will im sure be a popular  item on the market. There   a lot of rich people out there who can afford to  dwell in michael,s place of death.  I think you can take a tour of the house, in which i think is cool. Most people don’t get to walk or visit mansions of that caliber. Me being a major Mj fan would love to  visit the home, michael was known for having very luxurious  living arrangements that exceeded millions of dollars.

On the other hand the house might not sell at all , they should make it a place like Graceland where michael spent his last days. Open it up as a museum for  fans all around the world to visit and celebrate the life of the king of pop. Never never land would probably be the most suitable place for a museum , that would showcase the life of michael , he was most happy there before all of the drama surfaced and  he boasted many exciting features to the house including a zoo, amusement park and very impressive  decor inside of the grounds.

wyclef for president of haiti

Posted: August 5, 2010 in Uncategorized

Wyclef  from the  popular hip hop group the fugees has been recently noted as being a candidate for president of Haiti in their upcoming election. His efforts to raise money for the earthquake victims in the past has been very much appreciated by the Haitian people. Even before that he was involved in  numerous efforts to maintain relief in his native homeland.  Wyclef the founder and chairman of the yele haiti a non governmental organization that focuses on Haiti , has resigned  as recently stated on gawker.com. The  organization will be taking over by  Derek Johnson who was responsible for taking over the Appolo  theater  come back, to maintain the  continued success  yele haiti has had.

I think that wyclef is a perfect candidate for president of Haiti i don’t recall anyone else giving  as much effort and money to this country. Thru all of the turmoil  that has happened he has stood behind the  relief efforts no matter how grim and unpromising  the outcome has been.  The fact that he is a refugee all-star always  referencing the country in  his music and on stage,  in most cases having a guitar with the flag painted on top or the Haitian flag as a major obstical on stage , proves his major dedication and  perseverance to the country.

The hip hop community has accepted wyclef on the terms that his heritage is from Haiti, on an international level he has been hailed as an ambassador to the country, always bringing popular artist together such as shakira ,u2 and the black eyed peas to  raise money for efforts in his country. He speaks  in the native language of the country  which gives the people of that country a feeling , that someone is out there representing them around the world. I think he should have run  for president a long time ago, the people love his drive to maintain peace in that region.

When i saw the lineup for the  rock the bells tour this year, I immediately noticed that Lauryn hill was performing a few dates , including the san Bernardino date here in los Angeles. Ms hill has  been missing out of the scene  for a while now , the last material that i heard was the dave Chappelle block party fugees reunion , which was great and also the unplugged album.  The last full  length was the miseducation of Lauryn hill in 98 , that went on to sell millions of copies and  made her a staple in music history.

Some music fans would rather see her reform with the fugees , but i don’t see that combination happening anytime soon. Wyclef has moved on to superstardom and  no one has heard from pras in years. I   saw  the fugees in the 90s , in concert and i must say Lauryn put on quite a performance standing up to many male mc,s , lyrically.   Just a couple of days ago i heard her new song repercussions and it  mostly focuses on her singing talent , there is no rapping in the track.  It still was very impressive to me,  probably because its been so long since ive heard any new material from her , i would have taken anything.  I think she might be one of those artist that put out album every 8 to 10 yrs,  artist such as Maxwell and sade have gone away come back years later and still remained relevant in the music industry.

Lauryn   will always have a wide-spread curiosity of what she is dong  or will be doing in the future. The music scene is missing her integrity as an artist. You no when you hear her material you are getting raw true to life  experiences , she has never been know to hold her thoughts inside about any subject.  Even today  she is a credible MC , i cant think of many female rappers who are as good, maybe, Jeane grae or bahamadia.   I think she has discovered the corporate animal that the music industry is and does not want to play their game.  She could very well come back super strong, her fan base is loyal and willing to go along for the ride.

Beaches from the gulf to Louisiana has reported  health risk and closings more than ten times  than last year, apparently  because of the oil spill that has forever changed beach experiences in that region. This year there were over 2000 beach closings as opposed to last years  237 closings and advisories.  Louisiana beaches were the hardest hit, it seems like every few years this region gets hit with a major calamity, first Katrina and now this.

Local workers that make their living off of fishing or crab catching, have had their primary way of making money , pretty much washed away in oil residue. I would think twice before i travel to Louisiana or mobile Alabama for a seafood dinner. I guess those local restaurants and food venue are importing their food from other parts of the world , asia and hopefully Maryland which is known for there great seafood.

Florida is known for their frequent tourist visits for their beaches, this year travel to the region has decreased , because of the oil problem.   The perceived oil issue being portrayed in the media has made many visitors scarred to visit the region. I personally work for starwood hotels and we have several locations in florida, and Miami and fort Lauderdale and it remains to be a hot spot for hotel goers.  Beachfront request are at the top of the list, so   I don’t  think everyone is listening  or looking at the news clips, warning tourist not to go there.

The BP disaster was a very costly learning experience for the government and the oil industry.  Compensation packages have been given out to business owners that are suffering from the lost. Michelle obama  was seen walking barefoot on an  panhandle beach, to encourage visitors to come back to the region. Worst comes to worst you can go to Atlantic ocean beaches, ocean city, Virginia beach, atlantic city. Or just come out to los Angeles and experience the comfort of Laguna or Manhattan beach,  there are choices for travelers that need that beach fix. I have been to south beach Miami a couple of times and i must say that there clear blue 75 degree water  is one the best in the nation.

killer bedbugs

Posted: July 22, 2010 in Uncategorized

Recently in new york there was a closing of the offices at  hachette book group because of rampant bedbugs. In the past i have had friends in different parts of the country complain about the problem. Having to get rid of the bugs or consider to move out .At the office someone must have brought the bugs from home,  attacking the inner lining of your body. The whole thing is super creepy to me, it reminds me of being in a horror film ,where killer bugs take over the universe. My good friend in Baltimore , her and her boyfriend were forced to sleep in the basement  because of bed bugs. Even myself having lived to in Torrance also Palmdale California in the recent years, have seen colonies of bed bugs  in the house.

It seems as if the bedbugs are taking place of the common mice or rat, graduating to the top  of rodent  ratings. Their has been reports of the bugs biting individuals, creating nasty marks. Or have the bedbugs been around for a longtime we just did not notice it? The difference between ants and bedbugs must be super close in contrast,  I will keep a close eye on this phenom  because the revolution for rodents might be on its way.  The mere fact of having that discomfort to live with until you get an exterminator to relieve you of that horror must be scary.

Picture yourself treading the infested floors of  hachett, everyday at work would be a challenging ordeal and guaranteed discomfort, im sure the company underground fear are the bugs.  In the rest of the world does the bed bug problem exist in a more apparent fashion? We just don’t hear natives of european, african or asian countries complaining about rodents. Bed bugs might just be the voice of  spoiled american constituents.
